Glen Austin Resident Association re-elects Mphatsoe for the third time in a row

The Glen Austin Resident Association chairperson says they have a standing court interdict against illegal land grabbers from the South Gauteng High Court.

The Glen Austin Residents Association (Gara) held its AGM to elect the 2023 executive committee at the Midrand Chapel in Glen Austin on March 4

The chairperson John Mphatsoe and vice-chairperson Martin Dohm were re-elected to the top positions unopposed.

This will be Mphatsoe’s third tenure in the hot seat.
Nicolene Badenhorst was elected as the secretary taking over from Rochelle Luus while Frans van Zyl took the treasurer post that was previously occupied by Robert Southey.

Rowan Pillay, Sydeny Netshituka, Steven Saunders and Mandla Maseko were all elected as volunteers who will assist the newly elected committee.

Mphatsoe said, “The challenge with executing some of our plans from last year was the inconsistent political landscape within the City, especially the mayoral challenges. Today you have a new mayor and a week or three months later you have new people coming in which then brings in new ideas. This has been our struggle.”

He thanked the previous committee for their diligent work and urged the newly elected one to work together in a bid to achieve their goals.

“Now that there is stability [in the City], we will be working very closely with the City. We want to ensure that our infrastructure is maintained and it is improved.”

Mphatsoe concluded Gara would continue to fight illegal land invasions in the area using the interdict they were granted by the South Gauteng High Court.
