Hirsch’s Waterfall celebrates International Women’s Day in style

Hirsch’s Waterfall hosted a diverse speaker panel on March 8, marking International Woman’s Day, with speakers coming from various backgrounds – and a strong feeling of ubuntu in the air.

The event started with Britta Rotmann, from Woman for Afrika, asking the audience to become slightly vulnerable by checking in with two feelings: joy and fear.

Hirsch’s PRO Jenna Searra said, “Being in public can be nerve-racking at times, but this simple exercise that took each person a few seconds to do glued the room together; noticeably by the networking that happened at the end of the talk, people not wanting to leave and the feedback after the event.”

After the check-in, world-renowned playwright, comedian, and actress Shirley Kirchmann took to the stage and had the audience in stitches.

Kirchmann introduced Sandra Zaca, former Mrs South Africa finalist and CEO of Brave Spaces. Zaca briefly and bravely shared the tale of her life around various forms of gender-based violence. She also spoke of women’s duty to respect and love each other, and to lift each other sharing in each other’s successes.

Following Zaca were the three femme musketeers from Woman’s Warehouse, Gin Mclellen, Ashley Adonis, and Nadine Clevely, slaying belief systems, low self-esteem, and shedding truth on various topics.

After the event, everyone had a chance to introduce themselves and what they do for a living or side hustle, and forms were filled in for the grand lucky draw of three prizes – a Samsung microwave, a Philips blender, and a gift bag filled with items made by Besizana (Helping Each Other) women.

Afterward, the attendees mingled and munched on treats while chatting about hope, connection, and the importance of humanity for ourselves and each other.
