Robbers escape with cash and liquor in Midrand

Police are asking the community to help them locate two robbers that got away with money and liquor during a robbery.

Ivory Park police are looking for two suspects who stormed into a liquor outlet in Ebony Park on May 1 at about 16:00 and made off with cash and beverages.

It is alleged that one of the suspects pointed a firearm at the cashier and demanded cash while the other ordered patrons to lie down.

According to Ivory Park Station spokesperson Captain Ben Matimulane, the robbers got away with R2 000 and liquor.

“No one was hurt,” added Matimulane.

He said no arrests have been made and they plead with the community to help them catch these perpetrators.

Matimulane added it was vital that business owners increased their security measures.

“We asking the public to continue being the eyes and ears of the police by reporting any suspicious activities. Business must beef up their establishments, and retain as little cash as possible in their tills.”

Many residents took to Facebook to post about crime in the area. Some argued that unemployment was the cause of the high crime statistics.
Khomotjo Mohlala wrote, “As long as there is high unemployment in our country, such criminality will continue because the government is not creating jobs for those who have qualifications.”

Buchaman Cannibal posted, “The police must do their job. Simple. We are tired of crime and enough is enough.”
