No one was on duty at the shop when this happened as it occurred in the early hours, however, the shelter’s team was concerned about their safety going forward.

Karry Chapman, manager of the shelter, said they were devastated and scared the criminals would return.

“Staff and the rescue team that reside on the property are deeply concerned about their safety, and say it’s no longer safe,” Chapman said.

The office of Kitty and Puppy Haven was left in a mess.

To improve their and the shelter’s safety, the team are pleading with community members to help by supplying security gates, a fence, and window burglar bars.

Although the shelter charges an adoption fee for its animals, this does not cover salaries, veterinary care and bills.

Also, some cats escaped from their enclosure when the fence was cut and gates left open by the burglars. “We are thrilled to announce that we managed to find all the cats.”
