Midrand SPCA encourages locals to bring unwanted animals to the SPCA

General manager of the SPCA says the society has never refused an animal that is being surrendered.

The Midrand SPCA strongly encourages members of the community to bring their unwanted animals to the facility.

This comes after the SPCA inspector Jerry Seemise received a call from members of the community in Ebony Park on May 7 for assistance with two puppies dumped in a dumpster.

According to the SPCA general manager Pam Pretorius, the residents heard cries from the dumpster and immediately thought they heard a baby crying.

Two puppies rescued in Ebony Park by Midrand SPCA.

“They started searching for the cries inside the dumpster and instead of a baby, they found two adorable puppies dumped in a box on the rubbish dump.”

Pretorius said it is incidents like these that break the hearts of the organisation.

“To see our sentient beings being dumped like this as if they are trash breaks our hearts. Our society has never refused an animal that is being surrendered nor have we ever declined to assist when people are unable to drop off animals at our facility,” said Pretorius.

Midrand SPCA received a call from community members with regard to two puppies that were dumped in Ebony Park.

“We do not pass judgements when you surrender animals that you cannot keep. We will take them in and provide them with the care that they need. Please act with compassion — they too feel pain, hunger, and cold and don’t deserve to die a slow and painful death.”

The SPCA thanked community members who cared so much for the puppies that they called the inspector for assistance.

“Your actions warm our hearts and we are so grateful to those who do care about these innocent little lives,” added Pretorius.
