Nurse celebrated at Life Carstenhof

Roselene Mugwidi, advanced midwife at Life Carstenhof Hospital, has been at the hospital since 2015, said she started her career in Zimbabwe as a general nurse in 1996.

Nurses at Life Carstenhof Hospital, who had attended night-shift on the eve of the Nurses Day, were treated to a warm breakfast before they could go home to rest.

The day shift was then treated to lunch at the hospital in Glen Austin AH when the world was celebrating Nurses Day.

The hospital also celebrated the function of one of its units, the emergency unit which is managed by ER Consulting Inc. It was the 20th anniversary of managing the emergency unit at Life Carstenhof Hospital.

This milestone marks two decades of dedicated service to the community of Midrand and the greater Gauteng region.

Nurses enjoy their special day.

Hospital manager Thabo Mosheledi urged nurses to work together to better their patients and satisfactory customer service.

“Without a doubt, what brings us together here is to ensure that we treat our patients with dignity and respect but above all ensure that they are happy when leaving the hospital. We must help our patients lead a healthy life when leaving this hospital,” said Mosheledi.

He told the nurses that because of their hard work, the hospital was within the top five of the most-performing hospitals in South Africa.

Roselene Mugwidi, an advanced midwife, who has been at the hospital since 2015, said she started her career in Zimbabwe as a general nurse in 1996.

She said after going to maternity, she was fascinated.

“My mentor and unit manager Rita van Dyk pushed me to further my studies in master in midwifery and nursing. For a nation to be a healthy nation, it starts in the labour ward. Midwifery is a special nurse because she is the only nurse that deals with two lives – the mother and the baby,” said Mugwidi.

“In most cases like twins in private, we do caesarean sections. One day a patient came in fully dilated, fully dilated means a patient is about to push. But because we are a private hospital, doctors are not always around. So I called the doctor who dealt with the patient and inform them that the patient was fully dilated. I helped deliver and when the doctor came, the twins were healthy and happy,” recalls Mugwidi.
