Ward 92 and 110 councillors share their thoughts on the much-criticised IDP sessions

Ward 110 councillor Angie Mphaho says they have requested the city to build an additional sub-station to accommodate demand and relieve power outages in their ward.

Ward 92 and 110 councillors Charmaine Ngoepe and Angie Mphaho have reacted to the recently held Integrated Development Planning (IDP) meeting.

Ward 92 forms parts of Glen Austin, Kaalfontein and parts of President Park while parts of President Park, Austin View, Halfway House and Rabie Ridge form ward 110.
Ngoepe said the session was different from other IDPs they are used to having.
She said this one afforded community members and ward committees a chance to engage with their preferred entities.

“Apart from what we have submitted during Community Based Planning and Urban Development Framework planning, we need high mast solar lights due to the high crime rate. Tarred roads as we’ve got quite a few that need tarring,” said Ngoepe.

She added that Eskom needed to speed up its response time when it comes to auditing residents’ data, fixing damaged infrastructure and replacing stolen cables.
“Illegal dumping remains a challenge though it’s something I normally emphasise often in my public meetings. There is a multipurpose centre that is currently under construction of which we’re on phase 3 currently,” added Ngoepe.
She said she believes that the centre will play a big role as it has a soccer, netball court, swimming area and other facilities.

Mphaho said the purpose of the session was to raise pressing issues within the ward such as electricity and provide updates on current and upcoming developments.
She said, in her ward, the biggest pressing issue was constant power outages.

“The issue of city power not having enough capacity to supply our residents with electricity. Power outages throughout the ward resulted in load reduction, so we have requested that our power station needs to be extended so that it can accommodate the demand,” said Mphaho.
Mphaho said another issue was not having a second entrance in Mayibuye resulting in high traffic congestion during peak hours.

The issue of sidewalks in Rabie Ridge has been a problem. Since it has been in existence, there were no sidewalks resulting in people walking on the streets and placing their lives in danger from vehicle traffic.
