Local runner beats the odds and finds herself conquering echelon of running

It was tough, but with the support of her family and friends she finished the race.

Evelyn Ngezi, one of Blue Hills Schools’ staff members participated in the Comrades marathon on June 11.

Her journey began in 2011 when she gained weight and decided to run to lose it because she was unhappy with how she looked.

She met a friend while running and the two of them became close friends.

Her friend was a runner in the Comrades Marathon and therefore he introduced her to the big stage of running.

She found it interesting, and she immediately joined the Azania Athletic Club, which was the running club that her friend belnged to.

They began training together for a certain period of time but she was not ready to run the Comrades Marathon until 2022.

It was tough, but with the support of her family and friends, she finished the race.

“It was not a dream at the beginning, but it became a lifestyle.”
