City of Ekurhuleni explains Dale Road trench delays in Glen Austin
City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson says the city will repair the part of the road but JRA remains responsible for potholes.

Two months later, since it was established that the Dale Road trench in Glen Austin, is caused by the City of Ekurhuleni’s (CoE) leaking pipe, backfilling of the road is yet to be done.
According to Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the pipe leak was attended to and repaired. Although the trench, which has now covered almost both lanes of the road, poses a huge risk to motorists, Dlamini said backfilling of the hole will take place once the weather permits.
“The Johannesburg Road Agency [JRA] has requested the CoE to backfill only when it is completely dry to avoid a pothole developing in the future. There is currently rainwater in the trench. We will monitor the weather forecast, pump the water out when it is dry enough, and then repair the road,” said Dlamini.
When the paper asked Dlamini how Ekurhuleni is planning to fix the potholes that have since developed in the portion of that road where there is a trench, he said, “The JRA is to attend to any other potholes. CoE will repair the part of the road in which repairs were done. No. The JRA remains responsible.”
He said they were not going to enter into a Service Level Agreement with JRA to have them fix the potholes on their behalf. Dlamini said the CoE will continue to monitor the excavation daily and barricade the area for safety.
JRA’s spokesperson Mosa Makhalima confirmed and said, “According to our depot, the [above] information is correct.”
