Beaulieu College’s Paris qualifies to compete in her namesake country

The 17-year-old is determined to make a name for herself in the big leagues.

Beaulieu College’s learner, Paris-Gail Isaacs was thrilled after competing in the Afcon tournament which earned her a spot at the Olympics next year. The Grade 11 hockey player played her heart and soul out as she thought of the goal ahead. Her team won, beating Nigeria 9-0 in the final. She played as a midfielder, and she scored a goal she dedicated to her country. Isaacs realises that if she wins, she is going to be an Olympian so she plans on playing with her heart in her hockey stick.

The 17-year-old says her biggest achievement is playing for her career. “It is not easy to balance my schoolwork and hockey, but I have supporters that keep me going. I thank my teachers who avail themselves to give me extra lessons,” said Isaacs. Even though the youngster feels under pressure because she is the youngest player, that does not stop her from showing the strong material she is made of. To prepare for the Olympics, the youngster shared with the Fourways Review how she has a specific programme to follow. “Along with the team, we will be attending a few camps and test series that have been arranged for the new year.

Isaacs is determined to make her mark in the sport.

Isaacs has won the Afcon gold medal, the U16 inter-provincial tournament gold medal, a bronze medal in the PSI seniors and more. She would love to encourage youngsters to follow their dreams, commit to them, and allow themselves space to learn. Her biggest supporter is her mother, Charlene. According to Charlene, the biggest way to support her daughter is by being there for her. “I avail myself for her games. I give her constructive feedback and encourage her, pray for her, and make sure she balances her sport and schoolwork,” said Isaacs. She further elaborated on how overprotective she is, but it is out of the goodness of her heart. “I love my daughter and I hope we return home Olympians,” she added.
