Authorities arrest 20 speedsters in Midrand in one weekend
The highest speeds motorists clocked were 147 and 150km/h in a 80km/h zone.
The JMPD High-Speed Unit conducted operations on Allandale Road in Midrand, arresting 20 motorists for driving over the speed limit.
This happened over the weekend of February 18. Spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said the highest recorded speed was from a male motorist, driving a silver Volkswagen Polo at 150km/h in a 80km/h zone.
In a statement, Fihla said on the day, a total of nine motorists were arrested near Mushroom Farm in Waterfall. “And a further 11 motorists were arrested in Klipfontein. The highest recorded speed from there was from a male motorist driving a red Volkswagen Golf 7 at 147km/h in a 80km/h zone.”
He said speeding is a serious offence that poses a significant risk to road safety and the lives of all road users.
“The JMPD High-Speed Unit is dedicated to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring the safety of our communities. The arrested motorists were detained at Midrand and Rabie Ridge police stations.”
He urged all motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly to prevent accidents and unnecessary harm.
