NCR and Midrand police walk against GBV in Midrand
The Wellness Day, organised by NCR, has been an ongoing initiative aimed at tackling social ills, including gender-based violence.

In an attempt to tackle and educate the public about gender-based violence, the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and the Midrand police embarked on a walk on Wellness Day.

The aim was to raise awareness about the issue of gender-based violence within our communities and country, and the stigma around it.

This happened on February 23, in Randjespark in Midrand and 15th, 16th and Pharmaceutical roads were packed with walkers. After the walk, the runners were taken through their paces in aerobics by Neo Dimati.

Acting senior education officer Winnie Rabathata said the idea came after the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele’s, third quarter crime statistics.

Asked if the Wellness Day served its purpose, Rabathatha said, “Yes, we did achieve our goal. We have Wellness Day every year, but for this kind, it was our first. It’s usually a sit-down kind of event, then we have different stakeholders presenting. We needed the escort of the police since we were doing the walk. We also required them to give us tips about protecting ourselves.”

She said the event went well, especially because they have never had a walking event before.

“This event has boosted the staff morale and mental health of all our colleagues. We are hoping to have more in the future. Our stakeholders were amazing and a big thank you to them,” added Rabathata.
