During the official photo shoot, held at the school premises in Glen Austin on November 8, the two Grade 11 learners, Onam (17) and Buhle (16), said they were looking forward to the journey ahead. They hope to execute their duties with aplomb to ensure learners are represented in the newly renamed school.

The duo will be assisted by an additional 25 members in the Representative Council of Learners (RCL).
Onam refers to herself as a rooted believer in Christ, and as very outspoken. “One of the many things I hope to achieve as the newly elected head girl is to build a warm and welcoming community among learners, in the sense that there is no feeling of segregation between the older learners and the new, incoming, ones. I want everyone to feel comfortable around each other while respecting each other’s boundaries. I also would love to expand on the currently established concept of having responsible fun once in a while, as a way to make school more enjoyable,” she said.

For Buhle though, being deputy head girl is an absolute honour. “However, more than that, it is a responsibility that I intend to fulfil with diligence, always applying and availing myself to the position to the best of my abilities. I would hope to achieve a plethora of things such as inspiring and encouraging those in lower grades to participate and excel in the academic and sports fields. I would also want nothing more than to introduce and uphold the traditions of our school, so as to pave the way for future learners of Glen Austin [House] to use as their walkway through the journey of high school,” said Buhle.

She concluded that she hopes this opportunity will help improve her leadership, communication, and socialisation skills, which are imperative now, and will be more so in the future.
