Rondene Green scoops four accolades at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall annual sports awards
Rondene Green wins four awards at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall annual sports awards.
The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall’s fourth year BEd in Intermediate Phase Teaching student, Rondene Green stole the spotlight at the campus’ recent Annual Sport Awards.
She garnered four prestigious awards: Sportswoman of the Year (Ladies Football), All Star of the Year (sport and academic achievement) for the second year in a row, Player of the Year (Ladies Football), and the Sports for Good Award.
Green’s dedication to and passion for sport has truly set her apart as a remarkable athlete.
“It brings me so much joy knowing that I have made my mark. This is my final year at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall and with the fear of leaving the tertiary space and entering the working world (an unknown space), I wasn’t sure if I would fit in this unknown space,” she said.
Receiving these awards has shown her that, with determination, she can achieve anything she truly sets her mind to. “The goal is to continue my tertiary sports life by studying further and continuing with football and hopefully, growing my skills in basketball. I would like to continue representing and showing my skills through University Sports South Africa and The IIE’s Varsity College.”
Green also has a strong desire to promote girls’ football within the community where she grew up, emphasising the importance of creating equal opportunities for young girls.
”To all the ladies out there, whether you play netball or football, it is important for people to see you as an equal and you can only achieve this by taking yourself seriously and showing the world you can do it just as well if not better than others.
“And yes, I said sport is all about showing your skills and not about talking it. It’s so easy for people to talk sport but it becomes more valuable if you can back it up by showing them that you can do it.”
