Noordwyk Secondary U17 dominates D9, Champions League up next

The Gauteng Champions League ensures only the most talented and dedicated players reach the highest echelons of school sports, and Noordwyk’s boys are proud representatives of this tradition of excellence.

With their recent triumph in becoming Johannesburg East District (D9) school soccer tournament champs, the Noordwyk Secondary School U17 soccer boys are gearing up to showcase their talent on a larger stage.

Having secured their spot at the upcoming Gauteng Championship League, these young athletes are poised to make a mark at the provincial level this August and September.

The path to this prestigious level for Noordwyk began at the school level, advancing through the cluster level, where they dominated the Midrand Cluster. Winning at that level, they moved on to the district level, where they outperformed other clusters in D9 to earn their rightful place at the provincial stage.

This structured progression guarantees that only the most talented athletes from across the province compete at the highest level of school sports.

Speaking to the school soccer club coach, Phuti ‘Pellegrini’ Nkwana, he said the boys are eagerly anticipating this opportunity, inspired by their esteemed schoolmate, SA U20 national team player, and Afcon champion, Lazola Maku, who was also scouted from this very tournament.

“We are a school with a high level of competency and fully supportive of any programmes, irrespective of whether it is soccer or something else. We aim to be regarded and respected in the same breath as your Clapham and Rosina Sedibane, which are our biggest motivations, together with the School of Excellence. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll have a certain division of the school running independently as a sports academy,” coach Pellegrini explained.
