Residents invited to Midrand SPCA’s crucial annual meeting

The AGM will be held at the SPCA in Glen Austin on July 26 at 09:00, providing a platform for community engagement, reviewing financial needs, and showcasing achievements from the past year.

As the Midrand SPCA continues to face financial challenges, its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2025 will be crucial.

The Midrand SPCA holds a unique position in the community, it is the only organisation governed by an Act of Parliament dedicated to animal welfare.

Brenda Lucas, the society’s chairperson, emphasised the importance of sustained funding to uphold this legal mandate and that without financial support, the society’s capacity to operate and effect positive change is at risk.

The Inspectorate team, led by the dedicated general manager Pam Pretorius, performs proactive inspections, where education plays a critical role.

Lucas explained that the inspectors regularly conduct outreach programmes and provide community service opportunities for high school learners, along with educational initiatives at schools and during outreach events.

Despite these efforts, the biggest challenge facing the society remains financial needs. “The Midrand SPCA serves our community and animals daily. We receive no government funding and rely solely on our community to keep us operational,” Lucas explained.

“By supporting us with financial contributions, donations of goods, self-sustainable initiatives, and funding of key critical projects, we can continue to make an impactful difference in Midrand and Midstream and fulfil our mandate in the prevention of cruelty to animals. As the only organisation in this community that is governed by this Act of Parliament, it is crucial that we have the funding to continue this vital work.”

The AGM is scheduled to take place at the SPCA in Glen Austin on July 26 at 09:00. This meeting will provide a platform for the community to engage with the society, review the financial support needed, and showcase some of the achievements and work accomplished over the past year.

During the AGM, SPCA members will elect a management committee responsible for overseeing the society’s operations.

All members and members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting; however, only paid members will be allowed to vote.

If any members of the public wish to attend, they can send an email to info@midrandspca.co.za.
