FootGolf South Africa’s (FGSA) rising stars, Thato Segwathle (15) and Tshiamo Moholo (16), have been crowned FootGolf junior champions at the 2025 Junior FootGolf Championship.

This prestigious event took place on June 14 at the Creek 9 Mashie Course in Roosevelt Park, coinciding with South Africa’s youth month celebrations.
The championship aimed to empower youth by promoting participation in emerging sports and fostering opportunities for a brighter and more inclusive future.
In a closely contested boys top players’ event, Thato emerged victorious, narrowly beating his brother, Thabiso Segwathle, to claim the championship title. Dylan Strauss followed closely in third position. The family rivalry brought an extra layer of excitement to the day.

The girls’ category featured a standout performance from first-time participant Tshiamo, who confidently captured the championship title. She outperformed Annitah Marakalala, Masinda Mphake, and Reatlegile Mosito, who all tied for second place, finishing just one point behind.

Tshiamo expressed her enthusiasm, stating: “I didn’t know what to expect, but I had so much fun. It’s a great sport and I’m really proud of myself. I definitely want to keep playing.”

FGSA president Norman Mphake took the opportunity to unveil new club attire for the Gauteng regional teams, marking a significant step in the sport’s professional development.

He also announced that details for the upcoming national championship will be unveiled soon, expanding competitive opportunities for young foot golfers across the country and the continent.

Mphake conveyed his profound gratitude to the South African Deaf Sports Federation (SADSF) for their unwavering support, which ensures the inclusion and participation of learners with hearing impairments, reflecting FGSA’s commitment to accessibility and diversity in sport.

He emphasised the significance of the tournament, stating: “This championship is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of youth potential. We saw new talent, resilience, and unity. We are proud of every player who took part, and we’re excited for what lies ahead for FootGolf in South Africa.”
