Reddam House Waterfall choir shine at the Mountains Festival

As these young artists continue to grow, their experiences at events like this will undoubtedly fuel their passion and bring them even greater success in their musical pursuits.

Two Reddam House schools recently showcased their exceptional choral talent at one of South Africa’s most prestigious cultural events — the Drakensberg Boys Choir’s Music in the Mountains Festival.

Only the most elite ensembles receive invitations to perform at this notable event, so the participation of both Reddam House Waterfall and Reddam House Umhlanga was a significant achievement.

Reddam House Waterfall’s senior preparatory choir, a dynamic group of 70 learners, also took centre stage, performing at the Voices of Unity concert.

The learners delivered what many called their most focused and flawless performance to date, receiving a standing ovation from a captivated audience. The supportive parents who travelled to attend played an essential role in making the experience even more memorable.

Reflecting on the occasion, Grade 7 learner Mikara Perumal expressed that performing with the Drakensberg Boys Choir was an enriching experience that marked a high point for the choir.

Fellow Grade 7 learner Naledi Mntambo shared, “While we were singing ‘What Was I Made For’ by Billie Eilish, it started to rain. As we continued, the drizzle faded and sunlight broke through the clouds, creating a breathtaking view with the mountains in the background.”

Another Grade 7 learner, Zenande Ndungane, stated, “This was the most rewarding choir festival I have ever attended. From the bus ride to the performance, this festival fostered a deep bond among our choir members.”

Licham Horo, also in Grade 7, added, “We sang extraordinarily well and were inspired by many beautiful choirs. The highlight for me was listening to Reddam House Umhlanga’s high school choir, which almost brought me to tears.”
