Deppe said it has become increasingly apparent that the proliferation of illegal signage in her ward is spiralling out of control.

She said the current situation underscores a critical lack of capacity or willingness from the City of Johannesburg to enforce regulations concerning illegal signage. “Despite numerous requests to the city to address this issue, the response has been inadequate. As such, I am urgently calling upon the city’s By-Law Management Unit (BMU) to take immediate action.”

She said many street fixtures, such as robots, stop streets, and light poles, are overwhelmed with unauthorised advertising “It is imperative that this matter receives the attention it deserves to restore order and visual integrity to Ward 132. We look forward to the city’s prompt response and action in addressing this pressing issue.”

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla was contacted as the entity responsible for by-law enforcement.
His response will be added as soon as it becomes available.
