Johannesburg Water’s President Park reservoir is strained, leaving residents with dry taps during the day
For the over a week, President Park and Ebony Park residents have had water from evening to early morning, leaving them without water during the day.
Residents from President Park and parts of Ebony Park embarked on a shutdown protest on September 9, blocking roads with burning tyres and other debris, demanding that JW fix issues related to water supply.
Since September 2 they’ve had to endure dry taps, without stifled at best communication from Johannesburg Water (JW). From September 2 to 9, the entity throttled the water supply to the area to reduce water losses and demand, resulting in residents only receiving water from 22:00 to 08:00 the following day for the past six days.

In their latest Facebook communication, on September 8, the JW communication department said the President Park reservoir remains constrained due to a combination of higher demand, reduced supply, and infrastructure limitations.

JW said it was closely monitoring the situation and implementing necessary interventions to assist with recovery.
“JW remains committed to ensuring a first-line response to bursts and leaks, and to prioritising repairs as far as practically possible. Where no water incidents are reported, an alternative water supply will be provided in co-ordination with ward councillors.”
JW said that, due to the severe strain on the system, they urged customers to use water sparingly.
“Customers in lower-lying areas are urged to use water sparingly to support those in higher-lying areas. Given the severe strain on the system, we kindly request the co-operation of all customers in reducing consumption.”
