Police act on community tip-off, arrest suspect in Ivory Park.

Social media teaser: A suspect, arrested in Ivory Park for possessing 15 rounds of live ammunition, was previously arrested for trio crimes, according to preliminary investigations.

In a joint operation involving the Ivory Park task team, Gauteng Traffic Police high priority crimes and internal affairs unit, and Fidelity ITOC, a suspect was recently arrested for the possession of live ammunition in Ivory Park Ext 8.

According to a statement released by the Gauteng department of community safety, the operation followed information received regarding a foreign national who was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“According to the information, the suspect had been using the firearm to intimidate and rob community members in Duduza, Ivory Park, and surrounding areas. It was further alleged that the suspect would occasionally discharge the firearm in public streets,” read the statement.

Acting on the information, the team proceeded to the identified address where the suspect was located and conducted a search. During the search, members recovered one magazine loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

The suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm licence or provide a lawful explanation for his possession of the ammunition and was arrested for the unlawful possession of live ammunition.

Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspect had previously been arrested for trio crimes.
