Ekurhuleni North takes Rotational National South African Police Service soccer tournament, boosted by Midrand talent

Midrand Police Station officers swapped their uniforms for soccer boots as they helped secure victory at the RONSAPS Gauteng Provincial Championship soccer tournament.

Midrand Police Station officers proved that their skills extend beyond law enforcement duties, when they showcased their sporting talent at the Rotational National South African Police Service (RONSAPS) Gauteng Provincial Championship soccer tournament, earning top honours and bringing pride to their station.

Station commander Brigadier Molefe David Tsotsotso and the station management team officially congratulated members who participated in the tournament, praising their discipline, teamwork, and outstanding performance on the field, at the station on May 25.

The RONSAPS sports structure regularly hosts inter-departmental competitions aimed at promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and unity within the police service, while also strengthening community relations in the fight against crime.

This year’s provincial championship took place at Arthur Block Sports Grounds in Mayfair, Johannesburg, from May 13 to 22, bringing together teams from seven policing regions across Gauteng, including Ekurhuleni North and South, Johannesburg North and South, Sedibeng, West Rand, and Tshwane.

Representing the Ekurhuleni North region, under which Midrand members fall, officers displayed impressive skill and determination throughout the tournament, competing against some of the province’s strongest teams.

Their efforts paid off handsomely, with Ekurhuleni North crowned overall champions of the tournament. Midrand officers played a key role in the victory, bringing home four trophies and gold medals.

Individual excellence also shone through, with Constable Evans Maleka scooping both the Best Defender and Player of the Tournament awards, while Constable Tshifhiwa Muhali was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

The team was managed by Sergeant Musa Chauke, while Sergeant Andrew Moloto led the attack on the field as a striker.

Tsotsotso praised the officers for their exceptional performance, noting that they continue to raise the profile of the station both in service and in sport.
