Midrand residents concerned with traffic and crime

Many Midrand residents, especially in Vorna Valley, concerned with crime activities and urge authorities to prioritise it.

The Midrand Reporter asked residents if they were happy to stay in Midrand.

While traffic and crime were some of the concerns raised, many said they enjoy the fact that they have options when it comes to malls, shopping, petrol stations and schools on their doorsteps.

AMUKELANI NGOBENI: [We have a lot of] malls and complexes, so it’s easy to walk [to where you need to be]. And it makes life easier for all of us, but [there is] less police patrol on the streets. The only form of security is private companies but not the police and it should be taken into consideration.
TATY TSHIYOYI: I love Midrand so much and I think it is a nice area to stay in. However, what I do not like is the traffic that we endure every day. I think something needs to be done regarding improving infrastructure. The traffic is chaotic and a bad experience.
SUSAN JONKER: I have been living here since 2005 and what’s nice is that we have the infrastructure. Yes, it is old but I think people are attending to it and that’s what I love about Midrand. I think a lot of us want to see the area to be the best that it can be.
SIBONELE GUMEDE: The problem with Midrand is crime… Some people I know survived a hijacking in Austin View, which is where I am from. But besides crime, I am happy to be in Midrand and I think authorities need to work on solving crime.
