Local artist tells his life stories through his debut album

In terms of growth in the industry, Pyro King has been steadily growing and has been able to share stages with many of the industry's biggest stars including King Monada, Cassper Nyovest, and Lection.

The most awaited debut album from local Motswako artist, Kgosi ‘Pyro King’ Seleka, My Life, is set for release on September 25.

This is the 29-year-old artist’s first album, and he admits that he put everything into each track and the album is the culmination of his lifetime’s work.

“On it, I talk about my love life, my family problems, what I’ve been through with friends, and all that so every song is based on a true story,” he explained.

He is originally from Mafikeng, where he grew up listening to the likes of HHP, Khuli Chana, Element, and Notshi of Motswako music, so it is not surprising that he fell in love with that genre of music.

“This is not just a genre for us, it is our language as well.”

The genre of Motswako may be considered a dying genre, but due to its fundamental principles, it is often used by upcoming artists as a basis before they enter the world of music.

“I wouldn’t say Motswako is a dying genre because Motswako artists haven’t been releasing that much lately. I was talking to Fifi Cooper the other day and she is doing good, also working on a solid project as well,” said Pyro King.

As a Motswako artist, one must have the creative writing skills necessary to perfect the genre, which is why many artists find it easy to learn and write music. For Pyro King, horning his writing was something that came naturally to him.

“Growing up, my mother was a backup singer for the late Brenda Fassie, and my father was a well-known DeeJay in Zeerust, so basically I didn’t choose music, it chose me.”

In terms of growth in the industry, Pyro King has been steadily growing and has been able to share stages with many of the industry’s biggest stars including King Monada, Cassper Nyovest, and Lection.

Although he is a Motswako artist, Amapiano is currently the hottest genre in South Africa, and Pyro King has decided to ride the wave by dropping a piano track which features La Sauce titled Hapelele Gwa.

His Amapiano song made it to Crespy Fresh on Channel O and he promises to keep up this energy on his album.
