Kwlwax’s passion for music ignited at nine years old, inspired by his older brother’s computer, which sparked his desire to become a DJ. Although financial constraints stopped his brother from pursuing this DJ dream, Kwlwax refused to let that hold him back.

A pivotal moment in his journey came in 2015 when he heard the song ‘Composure’ by the late South African rapper AKA. This encounter motivated him to create a remix, setting him on a clear path in the music industry.

Kwlwax draws inspiration from influential artists like AKA and Lil Wayne, acknowledging their profound impact on his sound. He firmly believes AKA ranks among South Africa’s greatest rappers, while Lil Wayne’s artistry has resonated with him since childhood.

Despite the challenges of growing up without a father, Kwlwax credits his mother for her unwavering support, fulfilling the roles of both parents in his upbringing. He reflects on his childhood, declaring, “I could either stay a victim of circumstance and make excuses for my bad choices based on the neglect I suffered, or I could take personal responsibility.”

His educational journey through Bedfordview Primary School and Dawnview High School provided him with essential opportunities to cultivate his musical talent. Weekly music classes and school concerts not only boosted his confidence but equipped him with practical knowledge for creating music.

What truly distinguishes Kwlwax from his peers is his unwavering commitment to authenticity. He draws directly from his life experiences, ensuring his lyrics accurately reflect his truth. “Whatever I experience in life, I write about it,” he asserts, emphasising the transparency that defines his songwriting.

Despite his dedication and talent, Kwlwax is acutely aware of the ongoing challenge of gaining recognition and securing performance opportunities. He is proactive in using social media as a powerful tool to promote his music and connect with a wider audience. As he continues to sharpen his skills, his short-term goals center on enhancing his songwriting and effectively translating his distinct personality into his music.

Looking ahead, Kwlwax is determined to leave a lasting legacy through his artistry. “I want people to remember me through my music and my performances as one of the best to ever do it.”
