Sector 1 Crime Forum chairperson gives positive feedback during a community meeting

Jonathan 'Jo' Burrows said two of their three suburbs, Glen Austin and President Park, have seen lower crime rates recently.

Sector 1 Crime Forum, under Midrand Community Police Forum, held a public meeting where they shared crime trends have decreased in two of the three suburbs under its jurisdiction.

This was revealed by forum chairperson Jonathan Burrows, popularly known as Jo in the community, on November 23 at Midrand Chapel in Glen Austin. Sector 1 services Halfway House, Glen Austin and President Park.

Burrows told community members that despite a drop in crime in Glen Austin and President Park, Halfway House remained a hotspot for the sector as it is situated in the Midrand CBD.

“In Halfway House, we are still battling with common robbery crime. Again, people need to be aware of their surroundings, at ATMs and keep their phones hidden. General housebreakings and theft have been slower in Glen Austin and President Park but we still need residents to report fence cuttings or any unusual activities and also to open a case with Midrand SAPS,” said Burrows.

He said he was pleased that hijacking incidents were down in all three suburbs but still urged the public to remain alert at all times.

Burrows attributed the drop in crime incidents to visible policing. “We have been conducting visible policing patrols with police. We would like to encourage residents from Halfway House who are interested in working with the CPF to contact me on WhatsApp at 069 69 70170.”
