Glen Austin Residents Association gets streetlights and tarred roads
The residents association chairperson John Mphatsoe said this will enhance the quality of life in the suburb.
The highlight of the year for the Glen Austin Residents Association (Gara) was to get streetlights installed by the City of Johannesburg.
Gara chairperson John Mphatsoe said for the first time since the establishment of Glen Austin, they have streetlights.
“This is a great achievement by the executive committee of Gara. We are looking forward to having all the gravel roads tarred by the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA). We made the submissions to the city during the Integrated Development Planning session that was held in Rabie Ridge. We need proper infrastructure to uplift and enhance the quality of life in Glen Austin,” said Mphatsoe.

He said they wished to thank the executive of the city for the little things they help the community with which have a big impact in changing their lives as community members. ‘I would also like to extend my regards to Judy Bird, Angela van Antwerpen, Eat Your Greens farm, all the local farms and their various teams for feeding the needy.
“I would also like to thank the Sector 1 Community Forum [under the leadership of chairperson Jonathan ‘Jo’ Burrows] for the great work they do in keeping the community safe at all times together with all the security companies in Glen Austin. To the residents, I would like to say have a beautiful festive season, be safe and enjoy as we are looking forward to another year ahead.”
He concluded by encouraging forum members to continue keeping the suburb safe with a quote from Lebanese-American writer and poet, Khalil Gibran: “Safeguarding the rights of others is the most noble and beautiful end of a human being.”
