“They [suspects] were digging trenches and removing fibre optic cables. Our response team responded immediately. Upon arrival, the perpetrators working at the corner of Le Roux Avenue and Bekker Road began to flee,” said Maduray.
He said a foot chase then ensued and with the swift response of their officers, two male suspects were apprehended.
“They failed to produce job cards or any form of identification requested. Midrand SAPS was contacted and suspects were thereafter handed over to SAPS,” he added.
Maduray said over 60m of fibre optic cabling, power cables, tools, and so on were recovered and taken to Midrand Police Station.
