UPDATE: Noordwyk Residents Association petition receives more signatures than expected

The petition will be submitted to the responsible officials to resolve the issues plaguing the suburb.

The Noordwyk Residents Association (NRA) chairperson Bongenkosi Nhlapo said a petition to demand authorities address community issues plaguing the suburb had gained traction.

Nhlapo said they were expecting about 300 signatures but had garnered 500. This follows a demonstration by residents in November last year against illegal squatter camps and other issues.

“Immediate intervention is required to remove the squatters at the corner of Lever Road and Vodacom Boulevard. There is also a need to curb property developments that disrupt the character and safety of our suburb. We also want authorities to address reckless traffic violations and ensure adequate law enforcement by relevant institutions,” said Nhlapo.

The other issues include illegal dumping, waste management, sanitary conditions, unauthorised street vending, and vandalism of infrastructure such as electricity substations and traffic lights.

“These challenges have led to a significant decline in safety, cleanliness, and the overall quality of life for Noordwyk residents. We demand immediate action and accountability from the authorities responsible for managing and improving our community.

“By signing this petition, we unite in our call for a safer, cleaner, and more organised neighbourhood. This is a stand for accountability, fairness, and action to protect the well-being of our community and restore order to our streets.”
