Midrand SPCA goes through nerve-wracking rescue as donkey heads for catastrophy
After a tense stand off, Midrand SPCA managed to get the donkey off the busy intersection and onto a lead rope.

The Midrand SPCA demonstrated its unwavering commitment to saving lives once again.
While returning to the SPCA after collecting a donation on January 21, general manager Pam Pretorius spotted a donkey running through the busy intersection of Dale and Allan routes in Glen Austin.
Alarmed by the near misses with oncoming traffic, she, and Inspector Theo Mokgatle, quickly pulled over to intercept the donkey before disaster struck.

After a tense standoff, they managed to guide the donkey off Dale Road and onto a lead rope. However, the donkey had other ideas and escaped the rope, galloping back into traffic on Allan Road. Without hesitation, Pretorius chased after it on foot, determined to save its life, while Mokgatle struggled to navigate through the traffic in his vehicle.

They were soon joined by Inspector Jerry Seemise and two kennel assistants. After what felt like an eternity, they successfully led the stubborn donkey off the road and into a safe property. Sally Slade, and her daughter Jodi, quickly arrived with a horse box to help load the donkey.

With the donkey secured, the team could finally relax. Sally provided food for the evening, allowing everyone to end the day on a positive note, knowing the donkey was safe.
“Talk about right place at the right time. Thank you to Sally and Jodi Slade for your tremendous help. We did not look forward to a second attempt of walking this donkey back through the traffic to our SPCA,” explained Pretorius.
“A big thank you to our wonderful team who would simply not give up and who, once again, continues to display their passion and determination in saving innocent lives. The donkey was claimed by his owners the following day.”
