Midrand police arrest suspected extortionist and double murderer

Notorious extortionist and double murder suspect Linda Hlongwa has been arrested after nearly five years on the loose.

A joint operation between the KwaZulu-Natal police and Midrand police has culminated in the arrest of suspected murderer, Linda Hlongwa.

Hlongwa, who is infamously known as ‘Mjinja’ or ‘Putin’, was arrested in Midrand on April 15. Deemed the ‘most wanted suspected murderer’, Hlongwa has been accused of the murder of his girlfriend and her mother in March, this after being on the run from police for five years.

He has been wanted since July 2020 when he failed to show up for his court appearance, facing charges of illegal possession of a weapon. Further allegations of extortion have also been levelled against him.

Hlongwa is accused of extorting money from business owners, including scholar transport owners and local taxi drivers in Marianhill, KZN.

Hlongwa was arrested along with two other suspects in Carlswald.

Police have urged victims of Hlongwa’s crimes to open a case against him.
