Three nabbed with R200 000 worth of drugs in Halfway House
The MMC for Public Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, who was there during the arrest, has vowed to take drugs off the streets, and said that police officers who are working with drug dealers will be dealt with accordingly.
The Public Safety MMC, Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, has revealed that the Halfway House drug bust took them over two months to crack.
This comes after the Technical Response Unit (TRU) and the K9 units conducted an operation in the Midrand CBD, just next to the taxi rank, on April 3, which led to the arrest of three suspected dealers.
Authorities seized drugs with an estimated street value of R200 000 during the operations, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

Tshwaku said they also found dangerous weapons which were confiscated. The trio of suspects were booked at the Midrand Police Station for further investigation.
“The hard work of the TRU and the K9 units in tackling drug-related crimes is commendable. We will not rest until we eradicate this scourge from within our communities. Our priority remains to ensure the safety of our residents, and we will continue to take action against those who poison our streets with drugs,” said Tshwaku.

According to crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, it was alleged that some cops are on the payroll of the suspects, but Tshwaku gave a stern warning to those breaking the law. “Any police official who may be involved or collaborating with drug dealers, their days are numbered. Any corrupt official will be held accountable and processed accordingly. We will not tolerate any form of corruption in the fight against crime and drugs.”
Tshwaku said more arrests related to drug busts can be expected over the next few days in areas such as Midrand, the inner city, Soweto, and other identified hotspots.
