JRA and JPC pass the buck over bridge project

Johannesburg Roads Agency says they were awaiting Johannesburg Property Company's process, while the latter says they were awaiting JRA's confirmation of availability of funds. Neither side seems to know what the other is doing.

The two city departments responsible for the erection of the Sagewood/Noordwyk pedestrian bridge seem to not know the progress of the process.

Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) and Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) seem to be waiting for each other, passing the puck over the process of acquiring the servitude in a portion of land to build the bridge.

In the article, Bridge over troubled waters is still up in the Noordwyk air, JPC spokesperson Lucky Sindane said they were waiting for JRA to confirm availability of funds. He further said that they have requested JRA to say whether they will have the budget in the current financial year.

In the same article, Noordwyk Residents Association chairperson Bonginkosi Nhlapo boldly said he was not adamant that the servitude would be bought, because the city has been ‘dribbling’ them like this for years.

When the paper contacted JRA for confirmation on April 4, it sang a different tune to the property company.
Spokesperson Mosa Makhalima said: “This matter is still with JPC. JPC received a signed motivation from the JRA CEO to purchase land for the servitude in 2024. JRA is awaiting the JPC process.”

This is where there seems to be confusion, as to, exactly, where the matter is. It seems the left-hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing between the two entities.

The paper contacted JPC again, to clarify. Sindane was asked where, exactly, this matter is, with which entity to be precise, and if they have received a signed motivation from the JRA CEO to purchase the land.

However, Sindane had not responded by the time of publication.
