The shooting of the podcast takes place in a backyard in Noordwyk, Midrand, where only two episodes air on their YouTube channel every month, with the first season of the podcast having dropped on April 4.
Founder of Backyard Beats Jacob Shihawu, affectionately known as Phonic, said that he was inspired by the love for music, and the desire to create a space where diverse sounds and artists could come together to share their craft.
“The idea was born from the need to bring people closer to music. It can be through deep house grooves, hip-hop rhythms, or techno beats, all in an immersive and engaging setting. The goal is to build a vibrant community, where music lovers can discover new artists, experience fresh sounds, and connect through rhythm and energy. It’s about celebrating creativity, pushing boundaries, and making music accessible to everyone, no matter where they are.”
