The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall first-year student Reabetswe Mahapa crowned as king of the Battle of the DJs

“I have been waiting for a moment like this, and what makes it even better is that I am doing what I love to do for my campus,” says the new campus DJ.

The energy was electric at this year’s highly anticipated Battle of the DJs held at The IIE’s Varsity College Waterfall campus.

Five talented student DJs took to the stage to showcase their DJing skills and passion for music. In a showdown, Reabetswe Mahapa, a first-year higher certificate in Business Principles and Practice student, was voted by the student body as this year’s campus DJ.

“Thank you very much for giving me the platform to showcase my skills. I decided to enter Battle of the DJs because I have been a DJ for the longest time and I have not been able to showcase my talent, and I decided to make the most of this opportunity,” said Mahapa, aka DJ Rea De Vinci.

“It feels great. I have been waiting for a moment like this and what makes it even better is that I am doing what I love to do for my campus. The goal is to bring nothing but fun energy and to promote music from artists to the student body.”

The Battle of the DJs showcased the talent of the student body and fostered a strong sense of community and support. Mahapa said the battle was tough and that he felt the pressure from the previous campus DJ but had fun performing. “I loved the Battle of the DJs and I hope it doesn’t end because more young talent is yet to come.”

The event drew more than 300 students who rallied behind their favourite DJs, creating an atmosphere filled with camaraderie and team spirit. Each DJ brought their unique style to the DJ booth and had the crowd dancing and celebrating throughout.

Mahapa will be exposed to bigger-name artists at on- and off-campus student events, which will ensure he gets recognised for his talent as a DJ.
