UPDATE: Ivory Park Taxi Association PRO confirms treasurer killed in a hail of bullets

The late taxi association treasurer was allegedly killed in a hail of 27 bullets by two suspects on New Road in Midrand.

The Ivory Park Taxi Association PRO Mathews Mathotse confirmed that the association’s newly elected treasurer, who was shot in Midrand on June 4, died at the crime scene.

Midrand Reporter exclusively reported that treasurer Lefa Matemane was shot at a filling station on New Road in Midrand. However, it was unclear if the shooting was fatal or not, but Mathotse confirmed the tragic news today (June 5).

“Yes, our treasurer was shot and killed in Midrand yesterday. That’s all I know for now because we haven’t met as executives to establish what happened. If you call me later on, I will have the updates for you as we are going to meet this afternoon as the leadership,” said Mathotse.

Unconfirmed reports have been circulating on various social media platforms suggesting that it was a hit, allegedly carried out by two suspects.

Gauteng Provincial Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo was contacted for comment.
