Gauteng police confirm one arrests in the murder of local taxi association treasurer

Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said only one suspected has been arrested, and more arrests are imminent

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed to this publication that one suspect has been arrested in the murder of Ivory Park Taxi Association (Ipta) treasurer Lefa Matemane.

Masondo confirmed this on June 18 after the paper questioned him about allegations and unconfirmed reports suggesting that more than five people, including taxi owners, were arrested for Matimane’s murder.

He said investigation were ongoing and further arrests were possible.
Matemane was killed in a hail of bullets at a petrol station in New Road, Midrand, earlier this month.
