International Day of Yoga is celebrated in Midrand

Midland International School principal Sharira Padayachy believes yoga teaches values that the school wants to instil in its learners.

The High Commission of India, in collaboration with Midland International School (formerly Midland Primary and High School), celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga 2025.

The day is celebrated on June 21 across the world, but the school held its own on June 3 at their premises in Crowthorne AH, Midrand.

About 200 learners from Grades 6 to 11 participated in the event, promoting overall well-being, stress management, and mindfulness.

School principal Sharira Padayachy said the yoga session, led by experienced instructors, included brighter mind exercises, exam relaxation techniques, and meditation practices.

“Learners thoroughly enjoyed the session, particularly the yoga laughter session conducted by Jayesh Bhanna. Special thanks to Khajal Maharj, wellness teache, Tamara Smith, yoga teacher Devan Reddy from Brighter Minds and Relaxation/Meditation, director of Heartfulness South Africa, and all the teachers and learners who contributed to the event’s success. The Healthfulness team also supported this initiative,” said Padayachy.

She said it was an honour to celebrate this day in partnership with the High Commission of India.

“Yoga teaches us balance, focus, and inner peace – values we hope to instil in our learners every day. We are grateful for the opportunity to embrace wellness, unity, and cultural appreciation through meaningful events.”

She concluded that the event was a resounding success, which left a positive impact on all participants.
