Balwin Padel to launch SA’s premier venue at Munyaka in Waterfall City
Balwin Padel’s flagship venue is expected to officially open on September 1, with multiple events, including the inaugural Impi Cup, an event that will pit the 40 best players in Gauteng against the rest of Mzansi.
Balwin Padel is set to transform the sporting landscape on September 1, with the launch of its state-of-the-art padel club and facility, Balwin Padel Waterfall City, located in Munyaka.
This world-class indoor facility will feature MejorSet courts and Mondo turf, establishing itself as one of the premier padel clubs in South Africa, accessible to all residents of Munyaka and the broader community.

The announcement was made during a media briefing at the Munyaka Lifestyle Estate Lagoon on June 13, where Steve Brookes, founder and CEO of Balwin Properties, emphasised the company’s commitment to uplifting underprivileged communities through sport.

“The game of padel is arguably the easiest sport to play,” said Brookes. “If you can bounce a ball and swing your arm, you can play. It’s for everyone.”

Brookes further highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports, stating: “We are committed to engaging underprivileged individuals in sports, and aim to cultivate interest in this game among previously disadvantaged communities.
“I once visited one of our projects and asked some of our cleaning staff to play. They had a lot of fun and mentioned it was the first time anyone had ever asked them to play sports. That made me sad because many people take access to sports for granted. We need to ensure everyone has the opportunity to play, which is one of our missions with padel.”

He expressed an ambitious vision for the sport, saying, “We have a deep goal to take a South African padel team to the Olympics. That would be one of my dreams… And it would be fantastic if we could win. I mean, we excel in athletics, rugby, and swimming – why can’t we excel in padel?”
He also proudly highlighted the strong sales performance at Munyaka, emphasising the dual mission of selling apartments to fund initiatives related to sports and charitable causes.
Sebastian Brokmann, managing director of Balwin Padel, reinforced the club’s capabilities, stating: “The club will feature five indoor courts. Our architectural team has been diligently working on this for months, and we have sourced the highest quality courts, including MejorSet from Spain and Mondo from Italy. Our goal is to provide players with the best possible experience.”

Brokmann noted that padel is the fastest-growing sport in the world, highlighting its surging popularity in South Africa. “There are now over 1 200 courts and 388 clubs in South Africa, and it’s exciting to witness how the sport is expanding. Padel uniquely connects people of all ages, more than any other sport.”
