Week to unblock manhole at upmarket estate in Noordwyk

Summerset Estate manager Rhona Rakow said they reported the matter on June 12 and Johannesburg Water only came on June 19 – exactly a week later.

Manager of Summerset Estate in Noordwyk Rhona Rakow is unhappy with Johannesburg Water’s (JW) shoddy work.

She said she reported a blocked sewer on June 12, and it took, exactly, a week for JW officials to unblock it. “I’m so frustrated. We reported sewage spillage last week Thursday. We have been following up with council every day, continuously, with the same response: ‘They will send a team’. I have also reached out to councillor Lerato [Mphefo] who comes back every time stating: ‘Escalated’,” said Rakow.

She said the spillage is getting worse. The smell is horrendous and it’s a health risk, adding that on June 16 the JW team arrived, looked at it, and said another team must come, they don’t have the right equipment. “Since then, we’ve been phoning, with no JW team on sight. The service is shocking.”

Eventually, the JW team came on June 19 – exactly a week later – and unblocked the sewerage line.

However, Rakow said it has started again at another house.
