Nizamiye Primary and High School Grade 11 beams with international intelligence
Zaakirah Islam Mahmoud won 1st place in the TeenEagle International Language Olympiad competition.
Nizamiye Primary and High School learner Zaakirah Islam Mahmoud took the TeenEagle International Language Olympiad in London by storm recently.
She scooped first place in the debate showcase and second in the knowledge quiz and spelling bee, as well as second in writing and debate.
Zaakirah (16) said she became part of the Olympiad through her school, which exposed her to this incredible opportunity. “With hard work and dedication, I was able to learn the resources provided and qualify for the Olympiad by passing the online round. Winning first place in debate made me feel very proud. I was proud to have been able to express my thoughts and perspective to a large audience.”

Regarding being a runner up in the knowledge quiz and spelling bee, as well as writing and debate, Zaakirah said she was pleased with her overall performance. “I would have loved to have finished first in those categories as well. I recognise that there is always room for growth, and I am committed to refining my skills to strive for excellence in future endeavours.”
She said the competition was an amazing opportunity filled with knowledge, research, and fun. “I had the chance to visit new places outside my country, which was a great experience. From the competition, I learned the importance of language and how to express my voice effectively. I also gained exposure to diverse cultures by interacting with people from around the world.”
The Grade 11 learner added that being able to collaborate with teammates from diverse backgrounds to achieve victory was her biggest memory.
