Noordwyk residents affected by water burst, resulting in low pressure to no water

Johannesburg Water said they were aware of the burst pipe and were busy with repairs on comer Eighth and Lever roads.

Noordwyk residents have had no water from the evening of July 25 to the morning of July 26.

This is due to a burst water pipe in the area on the corner of Lever and Eighth roads.

Community leader Bonginkosi Nhlapo’s residents were not informed by Johannesburg Water (JW) before the water throttling, leaving them wondering what was happening.

“They throttle first and send a message after. Welcome to the team’s new independent Joburg Water. Bring the water tankers [at least],” said Nhlapo.

Nhlapo refers to the ‘new JW’ after the entity said it was going to take over the billing from the city.

Interim Ward 112 councillor Otto Kgeletsane said he spoke to an official from the water entity who told him there’s a major burst pipe in the area.

“He told me his team is on site to address the issue and doesn’t have the material to fix the burst pipe. However, he’s trying his best and assured me water will be restored later this afternoon (July 26),” said Kgeletsane.

He said he further asked the official to provide water tankers, which were being arranged with the depot managers to get the trucks on the road.

“I’ll keep checking on him and provide the update. I deeply apologise for the inconvenience,” he added.

In a brief statement, on July 26, JW sent out a communication that, to facilitate repair, the water supply has been temporarily isolated.

“Affected areas include Lever, Eighth, George, Liebenberg, and 10th roads, Kiaat Street, and the surroundings. There is no estimated time of completion,” read the communication.

It concluded that an alternative water supply to the affected areas will be arranged.
