Dubula Stars blaze to the top of Midrand League Kanana Stream

With scarce equipment and no sponsorship, Dubula Stars United’s U13, 15, and 17 divisions are still dominating the Midrand League.

Rabie Ridge-based football club, Dubula Stars United, has kicked off its league season with a commanding presence.

The club’s U13, U15, and U17 teams are leading the charge in the Midrand League Kanana Stream, proving that passion and perseverance can outshine limited resources and tough competition.

Dubula Stars’ young squads have made an electrifying start. The U13s sit comfortably at the summit with 21 points from eight games, having claimed seven victories and only one loss. Hot on their heels is Lobisa FC with 17 points from nine games.

The U15s, meanwhile, are also on top with 22 points after nine matches, tied with M. Superstars FC, who have a game in hand. The U17s are locked level with Lobisa FC on 10 points after five games, showing promise for another title chase.

Despite their success on the pitch, head coach Sydwell Ramakokovhu expressed frustration over challenges beyond their control.

“One of the challenges is that the SAFA Johannesburg portal has not been updating league standings. Once children don’t see that, they lose motivation. But what I like about these boys is that they stay focused, they always come to practice, and they give their best.”

Ramakokovhu, who coaches alongside assistant Dumisani Mmela, admitted that the club still struggles with securing sponsorships, acquiring training equipment, and obtaining proper kits. Yet the young players’ hunger keeps them going.

“It’s been a tough ride, especially with the U17s, who are at that adolescent stage. But this is their passion. Not all children will become engineers or doctors—some are gifted in sports, arts, and culture. We need to champion their skills in the right direction.”

The coach believes the stars are aligned for his boys to clinch multiple league titles. “We are winning these leagues, most definitely. Our U13s and U17s in particular are on track, and even our rivals know it. We were underrated when the season started, but now look at us—we are sitting on top.”

The players themselves share that confidence. Young talents Njabulo Phiri, Blessing Skhosana, and Sbusiso Zulu are determined to lift trophies and bring glory home to Rabie Ridge.
