Southeastern Midrand Suburban Alliance urges JRA to address decaying roads
Kobashan Naidoo, SeMSA chairperson said the community, and motorists, are frustrated with the roads’ dilapidation.
Southeastern Midrand Suburban Alliance (SeMSA) chairperson Kobashan Naidoo, on behalf of the executive committee, has written to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) regarding the ongoing deterioration of the road infrastructure in Ward 110.

He said the affected suburbs include President Park, Glen Austin Ext 3, and Austin View in the Midrand area.
Naidoo said, over the past few months, SeMSA has engaged with the JRA office on multiple occasions – both formally and informally, through community meetings and direct communication.
“Despite these efforts, we have observed limited progress in addressing the condition of the roads in the area. Our repeated attempts to get the roads fixed have been met with delays, leaving our community very frustrated.”
He said the affected roads include, but are not limited to, Swart, Brand, and Kruger roads.
Naidoo said the roads mentioned above are being used by taxis and residents as a thoroughfare to Tembisa, and the condition of the roads, especially Swart Drive, has deteriorated to such an extent that the road is giving way.
“The road cannot handle the traffic, and no traffic management assessment has been done in years. The traffic congestion is unbearable. It has reached an extent where there have been multiple road accidents, leading to road rage between residents and taxis. Vehicles are being damaged due to the poor road conditions.”
He said that, while they acknowledge the efforts made thus far, the lack of meaningful and sustained action has led to growing frustration.
In their response, the JRA communications department said several roads in President Park have recently been resurfaced. “Unfortunately, we are unable to resurface all the streets at the same time, as we need to prioritise other wards as well. Regarding the three roads you have requested attention for, they are already included in our maintenance plans.”
The agency added that they have completed the inspection report, and their maintenance team will attend to them in due course.
