Local DJ and songwriter releases EP following successful single
Qualified pharmacist-turn-DJ Yolanda Xakeka, professionally known as Firstladyrsa, says her music aims to heal and uplift, while connecting supporters to their roots.
A Midrand-based DJ, vocalist, and music director Yolanda Xakeka, professionally known as Firstladyrsa, just released her highly anticipated debut EP, Ngcwele.
Born in Cape Town, raised in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, and currently living in Carlswald, Xakeka’s journey into music began with traditional drumming and church performances at the Zion Church of Southern Africa.
Xakeka (36) blends the deep spirituality of her roots with modern house influences, creating a sonic experience that connects culture, rhythm, and emotion.

Since 2020, she has performed across South Africa, reaching audiences in more than 20 countries through her acclaimed mixtapes.
In March 2025, she released her debut single, Abaphansi, produced by Nkululeko Sithole, popularly known as Thelordjazz, which received strong reception, both locally and internationally.
She said her passion for music runs parallel with her impressive academic career. A Bachelor of Pharmacy graduate from the University of the Western Cape, she practiced as a pharmacist for nearly 13 years before pursuing her dream of becoming a DJ.

“Music has always been my way of connecting with people, and with my roots,” said Xakeka. “Ngcwele is a spiritual journey, a celebration of where I come from, and a gift to everyone who believes in the power of rhythm and sound to heal and uplift.”
Ngcwele promises to expand on her success, delivering a body of work that speaks to her heritage, faith, and her vision for house music on a global scale.
