Robbery suspect jumps to death from Midrand’s New Road Bridge

After allegedly holding a driver up at gunpoint, a suspect has jumped to his death from a bridge in Midrand.

A robber, allegedly involved in a robbery at a fuel station along the N1 southbound near New Road, died on the spot after jumping from the nearby New Road Bridge on the evening of March 4.

According to Ria Sebetsa Security Services operations manager Dilon Maduray, the suspect had reportedly robbed the driver of a white Polo, holding the driver at gun point and demanding money and their cellphone. “Afterwards, the suspect ran while the driver chased him. The suspect then jumped off the New Road Bridge and died.”

Ria Sebetsa Security was among the first security companies to respond to the scene. Police and emergency services also arrived shortly after the incident.
