Midrand High drama club calls on community support for pageant
Mr and Miss Midrand High School event hopes to raise funds for stage equipment, costumes and a mini theatre room.
All eyes will be on Midrand High School on March 25 when learners step into the spotlight for the much-anticipated Mr and Miss Midrand High School pageant.
Organised by the school’s drama club, the event aims to celebrate young talent while raising funds to grow the school’s drama programme. The school is calling on the community and local businesses to support the initiative.

School geography teacher, drama coordinator, and media coordinator Lwandle Khumalo said, “This will be the second time we host the pageant as a fundraising initiative for the drama club. Our goal is to support the growth of our drama programme and provide learners with resources that will enhance their artistic development.”
Funds raised through the event will help the club pursue several objectives, including building a mini-drama theatre room at the school, purchasing professional stage props and costumes, and acquiring sound equipment for performances.
The club also hopes to use the funds to create opportunities for learners to attend acting workshops and professional drama classes.
“Beyond fundraising, the event allows learners to express themselves, build confidence and showcase their talents in front of the school and the wider community.”
According to Khumalo, parents and community members have already shown strong support for the initiative, particularly after witnessing the positive impact it had on participants during last year’s event.

“We have received encouraging feedback from several parents. For example, a parent of a Grade 11 learner shared that after participating in the pageant last year, their child has grown tremendously in confidence and now believes in herself more than ever.”
He said feedback such as this confirmed that the event contributed meaningfully to learners’ personal development and self-esteem.
The organisers have noted that participation among boys remains limited this year. “At the moment, only a few boys have entered the competition. We hope to encourage more male learners to participate in future events so that the event becomes more inclusive and representative of the entire school community.”
The drama club is appealing to the community for support to ensure the success of the event. “We are currently looking for sponsorships, prizes for contestants, financial contributions, and partnerships with local businesses.”
