Operation Shanela 2 cracks down on illegal activities in Midrand

The operation aims to ensure safety in Midrand by tracking down wanted suspects, conducting roadblocks, patrols, and inspections of licensed premises.

The Johannesburg District Commissioner, Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka and senior officers from the provincial headquarters were joined by local Community Police Forums and private security companies to lead the weekday Provincial Operation Shanela 2 in Midrand on March 26.

The team started with a briefing about the crime situation in Midrand before heading off on the operation.

The operation involved roadblocks at the intersection of Allandale and Alsation roads, which resulted in a vehicle being confiscated after establishing that the engine number had been tampered with.
Elsewhere, 50 illegal immigrants were arrested, and two shebeens were shut down for trading without a licence.

Overnight, the provincial detectives arrested about 963 suspects for a variety of offences, which included 217 crimes against women and children.

Kubheka said he was proud of his team.
