Russian Easter donations bring smiles to New Jerusalem Children’s Home

In the spirit of Easter, the Russian Embassy in South Africa visited New Jerusalem Children’s Home with donations to support and uplift the children.

Little ones from New Jerusalem Children’s Home were treated to a special Easter surprise when the Russian Embassy visited the home to bring joy and warmth during the holiday season.

On April 2, the embassy brought donations, provided popcorn, and screened cartoons for the kids to enjoy while they were there. Since it’s the holidays, this was another way to keep the children entertained while they were at home.

Secretary of the Russian Embassy Yulia Lazovskaia explains why it is important for the embassy to not only bring donations but to also give the children entertainment to help them understand that they are loved. “As the embassy, we usually come here every three months, bringing stuff for the children. Today, we wanted to give the children more than just gifts. We wanted to bring entertainment, that’s why we brought popcorn and cartoons for them to watch, and we also came with the children from the Russian School in Pretoria to sing for them.

“We weren’t sure they would love the cartoons we brought, because they are Russian, but it was so beautiful to see them say half an hour is not enough. They wanted extra time.”

The donations included groceries, blankets, and Easter eggs for the kids to enjoy over the holidays.

The embassy has continuously supported the home, awarding scholarships to two students from the home who are currently enrolled at a university in Russia, demonstrating their continued commitment to giving back to the home academically as well.

Anna Mojapelo-Difo, the managing director of New Jerusalem Children’s Home, expressed her gratitude towards the embassy. “As we celebrate the Easter holidays, it is so beautiful to have the opportunity for the Russian Embassy to visit us and donate to our home. They also took their time to bring the children to sing and dance for us, which is wonderful to see.

“I mean, they’ve been doing good things for us by offering two of our learners scholarships, and also always being there for us when we are short of some things.”
