Sewage overflow leaves Kaalfontein resident frustrated
A resident in Kaalfontein says the ongoing sewage leak has caused unbearable living conditions for her and her children.
Itumeleng Campbell, a resident of Kaalfontein, is requesting urgent assistance after sewage flooded her home, posing health and safety concerns for herself and her little ones.
Campbel said the sewage issue has been affecting their living space, and it has made it difficult for her little ones to play comfortably in their own home.

“This sewage problem really needs to be fixed because it’s a safety hazard. I mean, I have children in the yard and a pet that wants to drink the sewage water. This is really frustrating,” said Campbell.

Campbell added she has been reporting the issue to the ward councillor, and there has not been any assistance.
Ward 111 councillor, Nontuthuzelo Supe, said she has escalated the matter to Joburg Water and that there have been other similar issues in the area.

“The issue was formally logged with Johannesburg Water, and a reference number was provided as confirmation, and Johannesburg Water is aware of the infrastructure challenges in the area.”
“Previously, one structure had to be demolished as it was built on top of a sewer line, indicating ongoing infrastructure constraints,” added Supe.
The situation raises concerns about hygiene, sanitation and potential health risks associated with sewage exposure for all residents who live nearby.
